Sku Lights is where the projection mapping began for Light Art Interactive in 2012. The root of the project is a custom built application using a powerful PC platform called Touch Designer.
The original plan was to develop immersive 3D projection mapped installations but we soon realized that our 3D animation skills were not going to cut it. Instead we developed an application based on simple colors and geometries that were generated internally within the program.
The result was surprisingly rewarding. Instead of a projection mapped installation becoming a full production suitable for only one specific installation we created an application that could be adapted to unlimited applications. The user would simply map out polygonal surfaces using the app and with a few setup steps be able to control hundreds of features of an installation including colors, speed and patterns.
Sku Lights was later simplified into Light Art App but is necessary for the more intricate projection mapping installations that Light Art Interactive participates in.
